Tools of the Trade
If you are going to enter shows on a regular basis, it will pay you in the long run to have a well stocked display. It will be less stressful for you setting up when everything you need is at hand. To Start - You need a dolly of some kind. Don't depend on carts or someone else's dolly. They aren't always available. Have sufficient tables, stands, grids etc. to fill a 10' x 10' space. You can purchase 6' or 8' tables that are sturdy from Costco, Home Depot or Canadian Tire. Do not use TV tables except for wrapping inside the booth. The tables must be properly skirted on all four sides to the floor to hide unsightly boxes, bags etc. Make sure you have masking tape, duct tape, staple gun with lots of staples to attach skirt. Lights, if you need them, will require a separate bin with a 25' three prong heavy duty cord. The cord must be in good condition with no joins or frayed spots. You need a power bar and lots of extensions to keep all cords hidden under tables. Just a word of caution, make sure you unplug power source at night and not leave anything on. This is a safety issue and can lead to fires. A work table inside your booth is a must for wrapping etc. It should be skirted also. Bring a comfortable, supportive chair. DO NOT USE LAWN CHAIRS. They are not professional looking. The Sale - this requires bags (not Loblaws), tissue, scotch tape & scissors. Buyers like something extra sometimes such as a box, gift bag or just raffia (or curling ribbon) to tie the bag. If you have all these things, all you will need to concentrate on is selling with no stress. |
